From Jim

Great work last Thursday! You continue to amaze me in how quickly you learn music. Thank you for allowing me to go home and rest after Rhapsody. I had to push myself to be there last night and with Paul coming in it was a no-brainer for me. (I actually had a trash bag on hand if needed.) Thanks to Steve Williams for being there for me.

I’m sure you realize from last night’s rehearsal what a special talent Paul Rumrill is. He not only plays beautifully, but he sells the music. That is so crucial for a soloist and especially on a long piece like Rhapsody in Blue.

Rhapsody in Blue: Things to work on

I think one more rehearsal focusing on Rhapsody dealing with details and we’ll be ready to go!

Soloists: Nail down your solos so that they sound effortless.

Woodwinds: This piece presents challenges for intonation because of the sharp key and the extreme high range in places. For instance from measure 475 to 480 Flute 1/1st Clarinet/Alto Sax/Tenor Sax, work on these few measures with a tuner. We’ll hit these spots at our following rehearsal.
