BAND SCHOLARSHIP

Lynchburg Pops Community Band

The Lynchburg Pops Community Band is YOUR local volunteer musical ensemble. Offering a minimum of 5 performances a year, our members range in age from juniors in High School to retired individuals. All have gone through school music programs, and continue to enjoy playing as adults.

One of our stated purposes is to support quality local K-12 and university music education programs. To that end, we are proud to offer two $1,000 scholarships to band students in our community. To be eligible, the student must:

  1. Attend a private or public school in Bedford County, Campbell County, Amherst County, or Lynchburg City;
  2. Must be a member of the school band, if one exists;
  3. Must be accepted and enrolled in college as a music major for the Fall 2026 semester.

This is a one-time, non-renewable award. We would be honored if the scholarship winners could be present at our concert on Thursday, May 14 at the Academy Center of the Arts in Lynchburg to be recognized in public.

Please click on the attached link to apply for the scholarship.

LPOPS Scholarship Application

Three letters of recommendation must be attached, and one of those letters must be from the student’s current school band director. The deadline to submit a completed application is May 1, 2026.

If you need further information, please contact Ed McCann, Vice-President, LPCB, at emccann@lpops.org.

What is Lynchburg Pops?

Since 2019 The Lynchburg Pops Community Band has provided an opportunity for local adults to play their instruments in a friendly band setting. Members of our multi-generational group come from a variety of professions and backgrounds, but we share the love of creating beautiful music together.

Each year Lynchburg Pops performs four major concerts for the community along with several smaller performances. Our eclectic repertoire includes everything from toe-tapping Broadway tunes to classic Sousa marches to classic works for band from composers like Sousa, Holst, and Grainger.
