There is a strong difference in Practice and Rehearsal. Practice is what we do at home as we hammer out the intricate rhythmical figures of each piece. Rehearsal is when we put together the results of all our practicing. Can you see the difference?
If you wait until the rehearsal to “learn” your parts you’re doing the band a huge disservice. You’re lessening the efficiency of rehearsal. But, if you bring to the Thursday night rehearsal the results of having mastered the notes and rhythms, then we can proceed together at a productive pace.
As you prepare, purpose it in your heart that the rehearsal will not come to a halt because of lack of preparation. A few of the tunes we play are very technical and must be hammered out in rehearsal (i.e. Rhapsody in Blue.) That’s understandable.
With that in mind, I have stepped up my own pace by sending out the Thursday night plan sooner than in the past so that you can have a weekend focus for your practicing.
