The following link is to a form you may use to register your interest in running for the Board of Directors of Lynchburg Pops. The eligibility requirements are that you have been an active member of Pops for at least a year.
Being a board member is really two jobs.
First, there is the legal responsibility of managing our non-profit organization. Though mostly budgetary, there are other responsibilities laid out in our By-Laws and in regulations governing non-profit organizations that are carried out primarily through the mechanism of motions and votes.
The second job of a board member is operational. Most members of the board have operational responsibilities that deal with the day-to-day functioning of our band, including preparations for concerts. Some of these responsibilities are tied to the variety of offices held by board members. Other responsibilities are those that have been picked up by board members who have volunteered to take them.
The board has settled into a pattern of meeting for monthly board meetings. The time requirements outside of our board meetings depend on a board member’s office or other responsibilities. Like everything else in Lynchburg Pops, how much energy you bring is up to you.
The board has learned a lot this year. We hope that our “growing pains” can pave the way for a more enjoyable experience for everyone who would willingly give of their time in the service of Pops, including the board members.
