Lynchburg Pops Community Band brings musicians from throughout the Lynchburg area together to learn, perform, and share the joy of live music.
We are an all-volunteer, multigenerational group made up of people from a variety of professions, backgrounds, and levels of musical experience. Although our individual stories are different, we are united by a love of making music together.

Lynchburg Pops is an all-volunteer community for adult musicians. Our members include former high-school and college musicians, current music students, experienced performers, music educators, and people who simply enjoy playing or singing recreationally.
High-school students may also be considered with a recommendation from their band director.
You do not need to be a professional musician. We welcome people from a variety of musical backgrounds and experience levels.
Instrumental musicians rehearse throughout the year on Thursday evenings from 7:00–9:00 p.m. at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.
There is no fee to participate, and we do not hold traditional auditions or tryouts. Members should be able to play a band instrument and be willing to consistently attend rehearsals, practice at home, and participate in concerts.
Music is shared digitally, and members are generally responsible for printing and bringing their own parts.

Weekly Thursday rehearsals
Several concerts and community performances each year
Challenging and entertaining music
Musicians from different backgrounds and experience levels
A friendly and encouraging rehearsal environment
Opportunities to improve your skills and meet other music lovers

Vocalists are musicians, too!
The Lynchburg Pops Singers join the band for selected concerts throughout the year. Instead of meeting every Thursday year-round, singers generally begin rehearsing several weeks before a performance that includes choral music.
Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings in the chorus room at Heritage High School.
Singers receive sheet music and, when available, practice recordings or videos to help them prepare. Members are encouraged to attend as many scheduled rehearsals as possible.
You are welcome to come experience the music and community without feeling pressured to make a long-term commitment immediately.
Lynchburg Pops is designed to be welcoming, but preparing meaningful performances requires commitment from everyone involved.
Members are expected to:
Attend rehearsals consistently
Arrive prepared and ready to begin on time
Practice their music at home when needed
Participate in scheduled concert performances
Communicate in advance when they must miss a rehearsal
Treat conductors, volunteers, and fellow musicians with patience and respect
Help create a positive environment for people of all ability levels
Our members have different musical strengths and levels of experience. Some have played continuously for many years, while others returned to their instruments after decades away.
Perfection is not required. A willingness to learn, contribute, and support one another is what matters most.
